Different types of pipe fitting
Fittings :
- Fittings are piping component that helps in Changes the direction of the flow ex : elbow, tee
- Changes the size of the pipe Reducers , reducing tees.
- Fittings are piping component that helps in joints together pipe. ex – coupling, Isolates flow – Caps
Types of fittings :
- Wrought fittings – Beveled end.
- Forged Fittings – Socket weld and threaded end.
- Cast Fitting (Not used in process Piping)
Different types of pipe fitting
Fitting size and thickness – Wrought fitting
- Fitting are sized with respect to pipe size – Nominal pipe size (NPS) and also as a diameter nominal (DN)
- Thickness are marked in schedule no.
Fitting size and thickness – Forged Fittings
- Socket weld and threaded end fittings are available from NPS 1/8″ to 4″ size.
- Forged Fitting are available in following pressure temperature rating class
- 2000 (only threaded fittings)
- 3000 and 6000 (for both types)
- 9000 (only socket weld fittings)
Elbow
- Elbow is used more than any other pipe fittings
- Provide flexibility to change direction
- Mainly available two standard types 90 degree and 45 degree
- Can be cut to any other degree.
- Available in two radius , short (1D) and Long (1.5D)
Tee / Cross
- Following types of tee used in piping – Equal / Straight Tee / cross – Branch size is same as run pipe
- Reducing tee – Branch size is smaller than run pipe.
Reducers :
- There are two types of reducer 1. Concentric reducer , 2. Eccentric reducer
Caps :
- Pipe caps are used at the dead end of the piping system.
- It is also used in piping headers for future connections.
Stub Ends or Lap Joints Flange
- Stub ends are used with lap joint flange.
- In this types of flange stub is butt welded with pipe, whereas flange is freely move over the stub ends.
