How many types of gears are there?
There are mainly 6 most commonly used types of gears, which are discussed below.
1.spur gear
The teeth of this type of gear are parallel to the axis of the shaft fitted in the gear, these gears are used very rarely, because they are more used for low speed, they can be made easily.
This gear is used for very low power transmission and at very low speeds; Like- in sugarcane juice machine.
2.Worm gear
The speed of this type of gear is very high, its gearing rotation is very low.
There are springs in its wheel, due to the spring its spiral angle is very high.
The noise of this gear is less than others, it is used only at an angle of 90 degrees
This gear is used to reduce speed.

3.helical gear
The teeth of this type of gear are at an angle to the shaft fitted in the gear.Helical gears are used when there is a need to transmit power to a shaft at an angle.
This gear can run with less noise than spur gear. And at the same time, more power can be transmitted through higher speed, more torque.

These are of two types-
- Right hand helical gear
- Left hand helical gear

4.bevel gear
A gear which is used to transmit power at 90 degrees is called a Bevel Gear.
Bevel gears are used in hand drill machines, engine crushers, etc.

- Straight bevel gear
- Helical bevel gear
- Zero bevel gear
5.Rack and pinion
A gear that is used to convert rotary motion into linear motion is called rack and pinion.
In this, the circular gear is called pinion and the long iron rod is called rack.

6.Spiral Gear
The teeth of this type of gear are cut in curved shape. When two shafts are non-parallel and non-intersecting, meaning the faces of both gears are different, then spiral gears are used to connect this type of shafts.
