Types of Spring

Springs are mainly of the following types, which are explained below-
1. Coil Spring
Coil Spring is mostly used in measuring steel tapes and watches etc. Spring steel is used to make it. For this, thin strips of spring steel are made in the form of coils.
2. Helical Torsion Spring
Helical Torsion Spring is used where confined space and high load are required. It is an annular-coiled disc spring of uniform thickness.
3. Leaf Spring
Helical tension springs are often made from round rods of spring steel. These springs are closed-coil springs. They withstand a tensile load applied by a hook or loop.
4.Helical Compression Spring
Helical Compression Spring are open-coil helical springs, which withstand compressive load.
Helical Compression Spring are often made from round rods of spring steel. Apart from this, rectangular or square shaped material is also used.
Types of helical compression spring
These are mainly of two types-
(i) Open-ended helical compression spring
Open-ended helical compression spring is used where the axial length is restricted.
(ii)Closed-ended helical compression spring
Closed-ended helical compression spring is mostly used because it has closed ends and is ground flat and square. These provide good distribution of end load.
5. Helical Tension Spring
This spring is used to keep the cover of the pie set in position. When the cover needs to be removed the cover can be removed by releasing this spring.
6. Wire Spring
Wire Spring is made from flat strips of steel which obtain their energy by banding.
7. Conical Disc Spring
Conical Disc Spring are often used for bicycle carriers and pad clips, etc. also it is found in closed coil or open coil.
