How many types of tools are there?
What is Tools?
A tool is an object that can extend a person’s ability to modify the characteristics of the surrounding environment.
tools are designed to perform a wide range of tasks in various industries and everyday activities.
tools are essential for tasks that require precision, control, and finesse. They are a fundamental part of many trades and crafts, including woodworking, metalworking, construction, automotive repair, plumbing, and more.
In the world of technology or ITI, you will get to read about five types of tools.
Today I will tell you about five types of tools. Which are as follows-
1. Measuring Tools
Measuring tool is used to measure the length, width and height of any object in our daily life or industries or other sectors.
Instruments like rulers, tape measures, and caliper are used for measuring lengths, distances, and dimensions accurately.
The use of these types of tools is different at each place. If larger lengths are to be measured, steel tape is used. And at the place where measurement is to be taken in mm, Steel Rule is used.
Apart from this, if you have heard the name of sheet metal shop, then you have heard about how the thickness of the sheet is measured. In a metal sheet shop, the thickness of the sheet cannot be checked properly with a steel rule. Therefore wire gauge is used.
Measuring Tools- Steel Rule, Steel Square, Steel Tape, Wire Gauge, Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Ruler, Compass, Laser Measure, Protractor etc.

2. Hammering Tools
These tools are used to bending, joining and shaping sheets, A hammer is a common hand tool that is used for a wide range of applications, primarily involving striking objects or driving nails, screws, or other fasteners into various materials.
If a sheet has to be bent into a shape, then a wooden hammer is used to hit the sheet.
This type of tools is divided into two parts, one of which is a hammer made of iron or any other ferrous metal and the other type of tool is made of wood. Which is called mallet.
Hammering Tools- Hammer (Ball Peen Hammer, Cross Peen Hammer, Straight Peen Hammer), Mallet (Standard Mallet, Bossing Mallet, End Faced Mallet) etc.
3. Marking Tools
Marking tools are instruments or devices used to make precise markings on various materials for a wide range of purposes, including measurement, layout, identification, and cutting or shaping guidelines. These tools are essential in fields such as construction, woodworking, metalworking, sewing, and many others. Here are some common marking tools:
When a circle or arc has to be drawn at a place, then a divider is used. Circles or arcs of radius 200 mm can be drawn through the divider. To draw circles or arcs larger than this, a trammel is used.
Marking Tools- Divider, tramel, Wing Compass, Scriber, Scratch All etc.

4. Cutting Tools
Cutting tools are instruments or devices designed for the purpose of cutting, shaping, or removing material from a workpiece. These tools are used in various industries and applications, including woodworking, metalworking, construction, crafting, and more. They are essential for creating precise shapes, sizes, and finishes on different materials. Here are some common types of cutting tools:
Snip tool is used to cut thin sheets of metal. Apart from this, you must have heard the name of shearing machine. This machine is used to cut very large size metal sheets.
Cutting Tools- Snip (Straight Snip, Bent Snip), Shearing Machine, Sander, Hacksaw, Chisel etc.
5. Piercing Tools
A piercing tool is a specialized instrument or device used to create holes or openings in various materials, including paper, fabric, leather, plastic, metal, and more. These tools are often used in crafts, sewing, leatherworking, and other applications where precise holes or perforations are needed. Piercing tools come in various forms, and the choice of tool depends on the specific material and purpose
Drills are used to make holes in thick sheets and thin sheets. If there is a very thin metal sheet, then a punch is used to make a hole in it.
Piercing Tools- Punch (Solid Punch, Hollow Punch, Pin Punch), Drill etc.
