what is lined / clad material
Read this : Pipe and pipe classification in detail
Lined Pipe :
- Mechanical bonding between pipe and line material
- To get the benefit of anti-corrosion property of lined material and strength of carbon steel
- Commonly used lined material are PTFE, Rubber, Glass FRP (Fiber Glass reinforced plastic)
- Ability to withstand tough chemical environments
- Also has abrasion resistant property
- Cost effective for non-critical service
- Cannot used in high temperature and pressure service
- Large number of joint due to small spool length.

Clad Pipe :
- Metallurgical bond between pipe and cladding material.
- Cladding done by explosive bonding process or by welding of cladding material on pipe.
- Excellent strength and toughness of carbon-Manganese steels are combined with the corrosion resistance of high-alloyed by cladding.
- Ability to withstand tough chemical environments.
- Cost effective for critical services.
- Can be used in high temperature and pressure services.
- Fabrication is difficult, special skill required.
- Costly compare to lined pipe
